The transportation sector consumes about 20% of the total primary energy consumption in the Kingdom, and the Center has worked in cooperation with all relevant authorities to implement several initiatives to improve fuel economy in imported light vehicles. While continuing to follow up on the implementation of the objectives of the Saudi Standard for Fuel Economy, the scope of work in the land transport sector includes improving the energy efficiency of light vehicles (LDVs) and heavy vehicles (HDVs), in addition to improving the energy efficiency of vehicle tires.
Saudi Standard for Fuel Economy for Light Vehicles Imported to the Kingdom
This initiative seeks to improve the fuel efficiency of new imported light vehicles, by applying a fuel economy standard and periodically updating targets for all manufacturers, with the aim of enhancing the fuel efficiency of the imported vehicle fleet.
Specification for air fenders for heavy vehicles
This specification defines the technical requirements that enhance the aerodynamics of heavy vehicles, which helps improve fuel efficiency. This initiative comes as part of the ongoing efforts to improve fuel efficiency in the Kingdom’s heavy vehicle fleet. Which reduces fuel consumption by improving the dynamic design of vehicles.
Energy Efficiency Label for Vehicles and Tyres
This initiative aims to raise consumers’ awareness of the importance of choosing the most fuel-efficient vehicles and tires when purchasing from the local market. This is done by providing an energy efficiency label installed on the vehicle or tire. Which shows fuel consumption levels in a simplified manner, helping consumers make informed purchasing decisions.
Awareness of economic leadership
This initiative focuses on increasing vehicle drivers’ awareness of economical driving methods in the Kingdom by adopting optimal driving practices. These efforts seek to improve the energy efficiency of light and heavy vehicles and reduce fuel consumption. Which contributes to enhancing the efficiency of energy use in the land transport sector.
