The buildings sector consumes about 29% of the primary energy consumed in the Kingdom, and the Center seeks to improve and raise the efficiency of energy consumption in this sector by developing the technical regulations, policies, systems and procedures necessary for this in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
The scope of work covers all government, commercial and residential buildings, including building systems as well as electrical and electronic systems and devices used in those buildings.
Energy efficiency specifications for air conditioners
This initiative aims to improve the efficiency of small and large air conditioners by setting new technical standards that enhance energy efficiency, including adding the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) for small appliances, which encourages the use of advanced technologies such as inverter technology, This update helps reduce power consumption and improve device performance.
Energy efficiency specifications for home appliances
This initiative aims to set precise specifications for home appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, and water heaters, where technical standards are determined to increase the energy efficiency of these appliances. Which will contribute to improving energy efficiency and saving energy consumption significantly.
Specifications of lighting and street lighting devices
This initiative aims to set advanced technical standards for indoor and street lighting devices, by improving their efficiency and setting minimum performance requirements. Three specialized specifications have been issued to ensure increased energy efficiency and lighting quality. Which contributes to improving performance and reducing energy consumption.
Energy Efficiency Code Initiative SBC 601-602
In cooperation with the National Building Code Committee, the Center contributed to the development of technical codes and standards that cover energy efficiency and rationalization in buildings, including thermal insulation of the building envelope, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and lighting systems. To ensure the integration of these standards with the energy efficiency requirements in Saudi construction.
Thermal Insulation Materials Specifications Initiative
In cooperation with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, precise standards and specifications were developed for thermal insulation materials, including the issuance of 16 regulations, which enhances the integration of building standards with energy efficiency goals.
Energy Intensity of Buildings (EUI)
This initiative seeks to raise citizens’ awareness of the importance of energy efficiency in residential units by issuing energy intensity rating cards based on basic design elements, which helps beneficiaries compare residential units according to their energy consumption.
Building Management System (BMS)
This initiative aims to study and analyze local and international experiences to determine the best ways to activate energy management in buildings at the legislative and awareness levels, to enhance the community’s understanding of building energy management requirements.
Standby and Off-Mode Requirements for Electrical Appliances
The initiative aims to set technical standards to ensure that devices operate efficiently in standby and sleep modes, reducing energy consumption. A technical regulation has been developed that includes these requirements to ensure compliance with the highest energy efficiency standards.
